Accelerated Medical Assistant (MA) Program (posted 09.30.05_updated 11.17.05)
Are you interested in an accredited Accelerated Medical Assistant (MA) program that will provide you with a MA certificate? This program will be held on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on December 3rd, 4th – December 10th, 11th and December 17th (total of 5 days).   NCLEX REVIEW Course-SPRING 2006: Register NOW! (Posted 11.07.05)
Are you a Nurse interested in taking the NCLEX-RN or NCLEX-PN but need an intensive review? Then the NCLEX Review Course beginning January 14th, 2006 is just for you! This is an INTENSIVE 10-week program held every Saturday AND Sunday for EIGHT (8) hours each day! There will be five (5) specialty instructors that will teach specific areas along with a lab instructor to assist review utilizing the BRAND NEW NCLEX-RN 3500 and NCLEX-PN 2500 software. The Welcome Back Center would like to invite all of our participants to an Alumni Meeting here at the Welcome Back Center! It is a chance for all of our participants to network with one another and share experiences and encouragement with one another. It will be held Monday, November 7th at 6:30 pm at the Welcome Back Center. If you are interested in attending please contact us and let us know what you are bringing. This is a casual event, so friends and family are absolutely invited!
  Accelerated CNA Program: WBC & GHOC (posted 07.21.05_updated 10.17.05)
The Welcome Back Center is excited to announce a SECOND 14 week CNA program through Grossmont Health Occupations Center. This program is designed specifically for Welcome Back Internationally trained advanced healthcare professionals. Once this program is completed, the participant will be tested and certified as a CNA. The participant will be able to apply for employment in long-term facilities and will be able to proceed to the next level of the Nursing Career Ladder. We are currently taking pre-applications,

There will be an Informational Assembly on Friday, December 9th 2005 at 6:00 p.m. at Grossmont College in room/auditorium #220 (park in lot 1). Click here to download the flyer. START DATE January 17, 2006. If you are a NURSE who is LICENSED in the US (passed the NCLEX) but feel you need a refresher before entering the hospital environment, please CLICK HERE to download a flyer or contact the Welcome Back Center to find out about a 15-week program designed to prepare you to work in the Hospital. REGISTRATION starts December 6th, 2005. FREE OF CHARGE! Getting into LVN programs is a competitive process. You must pass an exam that tests your English and Math skills. If you feel your English and Math skills need some improvement/refreshment then come review your math, grammar, spelling, and reading skills in a friendly, supportive class. Build your confidence as you prepare for the Vocational Nursing Pre-Entrance Exam s (DET’s), or other licensing and employment. Bi-national Cervical Cancer Symposium (posted 2.14.06)
The American Cancer Society, in collaboration with the Autonomous University of Baja California, the Pan-American Health Organization, and the United States-Mexico Border Health Commission, has the pleasure of announcing the upcoming Bi-national Cervical Cancer Symposium scheduled for February 17-18, 2006, at the Autonomous University of Baja California in
Tijuana, Mexico.

The Bi-national Cervical Cancer Symposium will emphasize and support the
exchange of knowledge and successful strategies along the United States-Mexico border region. In addition, the symposium will create networking opportunities for public health and healthcare professionals, explore resource mobilization strategies, and provide the groundwork for long term bi-national collaboration designed to help cancer control professionals build sustainable programs. Discussions will focus on the development of a bi-national action plan for addressing cervical cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment in border communities.

Divisions interested in learning more about cervical cancer or border health issues are encouraged to participate by sending one or two volunteers/staff to attend the event and by promoting the event in their respective communities among interested community leaders and agencies.

Please note that the primary language for the conference will be Spanish. However, some sessions (TBD) will offer simultaneous translation. A link to the program is attached. Please feel free to share it with interested parties. The themes that will be covered include prevention, education, patient advocacy, and alternative methods to detect and treat cervical cancer.

Target Audience: Medical/allied health professionals and students interested in working within border communities. Community leaders and advocates who work or have an interest in working bi-nationally on border health issues.
